Who am I?
Hi, I am Gav Blackwell, an artist and maker based in North Wales. From my studio in Holywell, I create contemporary handcrafted pieces and thoughtfully made products that celebrate creativity and craft. I am also a fully qualified art and design teacher, offering engaging in person workshops alongside working with schools and community groups to plan and deliver inspiring creative projects.
What do I do?
I design and create small batch contemporary art and crafts from my studio, combining modern design with traditional making. My work includes wooden forever flowers, architectural inspired models and laser cut signage. Each piece is carefully designed and produced in limited batches; never mass manufactured. I focus on clean forms and subtle colour palettes with an injection of hand drawn linework to create distinctive, lasting objects.
Contemporary Crafts
I am a creative practitioner who thrives on a challenge, turning ideas into engaging, hands on projects. I can work with schools, community groups and organisations to deliver imaginative, well structured projects focused on meaningful outcomes and ongoing engagement. With access to my own large laser cutter, I am able to design bespoke components that elevate workshops, creating distinctive, ambitious and professionally finished outcomes.
Community Arts
I am a qualified teacher with nearly twenty years experience in UK secondary schools and further education colleges. I have worked with a wide range of ages and abilities, building confidence and practical creative skills. I can offer tailored in person one off workshops on site or off site, employing my background in drawing, painting, printing and 3D design to deliver engaging, meaningful sessions for all of those involved.
